In celebration of World Fisheries Day, NPV highlights our NYSDOS South Shore Estuary Reserve
Fish Barrier Inventory a #TBP (Throw Back Project) to highlight the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems that help ensure viable fisheries.
This #oldiebutgoodie #TBP involved services to restore historic habitats in South Shore Estuary Reserve of diadromous fish (alewife, American eel and sea-run trout) in the tributaries of Great South Bay. NPV evaluated, assessed, and then developed a prioritization strategy for the removal/modification of structures which inhibited the fish passage to their spawning grounds. Based on NPV’s recommendations, a fish ladder was installed at Lower Lake Yaphank on Carman’s River to help fish migrate upstream in February 2023.
