Administrative Assistant – Hudson Valley Office

NPV is seeking a self-motivated and organized administrative assistant to work part-time in our Hudson Valley Office, located in Suffern, NY. Days and time in the office are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10am to 6pm. Applicant must have reliable transportation to and from the office.


Roles/Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the office
  • Answers phone calls and exhibits polite and professional communication
  • Organizes and schedules meetings
  • Carries out administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning, etc.
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, and placing and expediting orders
  • Processes invoices, expenses, and assists with entries into the company’s accounting system
  • Ensure operation of equipment by maintaining equipment inventories and calling for repairs
  • Other administrative duties and tasks as assigned


Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Prior administrative assistance experience desired
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ecologist – Long Island Office

NPV currently has an opening for an Ecologist to join our Long Island office to assist with environmental impact analysis, wetland permitting and delineation, habitat assessments, restoration and mitigation projects, coastal consistency evaluations and ecological investigations throughout Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley.


Skill Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, wildlife management, biology or a closely related field and proficiency with ArcGIS are pre-requisites for this position.
  • A Master’s degree and experience are preferred; however entry level candidates will also be considered. Working knowledge of environmental regulations including wetlands and SEQRA environmental regulations, NYS botany/wildlife/wetland identification skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar graphic programs are positive attributes for this candidate. Candidates should demonstrate strong work ethic and attention to detail, strong organizational skills and technical writing capabilities, and ability to manage deadlines and accomplish multiple tasks.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.

Roles/Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research, data gathering, and baseline analysis in support of land use planning assignments.
  • Create maps and graphics to be used in documents and in support of analyses.
  • Land use application reviews, environmental reviews in accordance with SEQRA, and preparing baseline studies and reports related to the planning field.


Skill Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in urban or regional planning and proficiency with ArcGIS are preferred; however, candidates with a bachelor’s degree in planning or a related undergraduate program such as environmental studies, urban studies, or economics and a minimum of two years of experience will also be considered.
  • Candidates should demonstrate strong technical writing capabilities, attention to detail, strong organizational skills and work ethic, and the ability to manage deadlines and accomplish multiple tasks.

  • Assist with and conduct land use application reviews, environmental reviews in accordance with SEQRA, and preparing baseline studies and reports related to the planning field, including data gathered in the preparation of comprehensive plans.
  • Attend evening board meetings as staff planner for municipal clients within our region.


Skill Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: land use, zoning, and demographic analysis; fiscal impact analysis, natural resource and ecological analysis, wetland delineations, traffic studies, visual impact studies, and similar environmental planning responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of SEQR and New York State municipal laws.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in planning and at least 3 years of progressive planning experience.
  • AICP candidate; certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS and some experience with Sketchup and Adobe Photoshop or Corel Graphics Suites required.

Internships

NPV seeks interns looking to gain real-life experience and learn firsthand under a dedicated staff of professionals who specialize in Environmental Analysis, Planning, Ecological & Wetlands, Environmental Audits, Economics, Stormwater Management and Sustainable Landscape.  Intern candidates can expect to work on teams, which are staffed with professional planners and environmental professionals with a variety of backgrounds and experience levels and may participate in all phases of a project (field work, graphics preparation, report preparation, research, testing, field sampling, etc.).  Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.  GIS skills are a plus.  The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, have completed related coursework, and a strong desire to pursue an environmental or planning career on Long Island or in the Hudson Valley.  A number of our prior interns have joined NPV full time following graduation.
