Mid-Level Planner

NPV is seeking an experienced, self-motivated and energetic Planner to work in our Melville office on Long Island to support our work with numerous municipal and private clients on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley.

 

Responsibilities

  • Complete planning/zoning studies and prepare document graphics.
  • Review development applications (site and subdivision plans, special use permits), SEQRA compliance, report preparation, and for senior candidates, attend evening board meetings as a staff planner for municipal clients within our region.
  • SEQRA document preparation, including EISs, for public and private clients.

 

Skill Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the principles, practices & techniques of environmental and land use planning, and a working knowledge of New York State land use and environmental regulations. Candidate may have proficiency in related fields including urban design, ecology, hydrology, geology, geography, or similar field.
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Familiarity with ESRI GIS.
  • AICP Certification is preferred.

Environmental Analyst/Scientists – Long Island Office

NPV has immediate openings for environmental analysts/scientists with experience in the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements and all aspects of compliance with the requirements of the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). Work assignments will involve management and development of technical sections for environmental impact analysis, management of technical analysis prepared by subconsultants and compilation of Draft and Final EIS documents. Ideally the candidate will have experience working directly with clients and review agencies; and experience with providing expert testimony at public hearings. Competent writing, research, organizational and analytical skills are required.

Landscape Ecologist – Melville Office

Nelson Pope Voorhis is seeking a full-time permanent position for our Long Island office (Melville NY) with a background in landscape architecture/landscape design and drafting skills utilizing AutoCAD and the Adobe suite. NPV is an environmental planning company, with this position’s focus being on sustainable landscape design, sustainable management, restoration, mitigation, and invasive management. Work assignments will involve sustainable landscape design, green infrastructure/stormwater management planning, watershed assessments, adaptive management, ecological assessment, field identification, and invasive species survey. This position will work alongside the entire staff of Nelson + Pope/NPV engineers, surveyors, architects, planners, and permitting specialists.

Requirements:

  • Minimum BS/BA in environmental science, natural resources, biology, ecology, horticulture, landscape design, or related field. Preferred MLA.
  • Working knowledge of SketchUp and GIS, as well as plant identification skills, are a plus. Work assignments will involve sustainable landscape design, green infrastructure/stormwater management planning, watershed assessments, adaptive management, ecological assessment, field identification and invasive species survey.
  • Experience with technical and report writing will be required.
