Driller Assistant

East Coast Geoservices (ECG) is seeking a qualified Drilling Assistant to work out of the Melville, New York office for an immediate start.

An affiliate firm of Nelson Pope Voorhis, ECG is a geotechnical company that provides geological and environmental sampling services, as well as groundwater monitoring well installations.

The work includes assisting the Driller with the operation of hollow stem auger and direct push drill rigs for geotechnical and environmental investigation.

Responsibilities/Top Skills/Qualifications:

  • Operating hollow stem auger and direct push drill rigs
  • Monitoring drilling process
  • Monitoring site safety while adhering to all safety regulations
  • Assembling and disassembling rig components
  • Routine maintenance of equipment – greasing, cleaning, and maintaining tools and machinery in proper working order
  • Physically able to work outdoors year-round
  • Available for early morning start times
  • Class a cdl to operate truck/trailer over 26,000 pounds – preferred
  • Soil classification experience and degree/coursework in related field – preferred
  • Good communication and organizational skills

Senior Planner – Suffern or Kingston

Nelson, Pope & Voorhis (NPV) is an environmental and land use planning consulting firm whose professionals guide real estate and government decisionmakers on policies and projects that impact the environment. As an employee, you will work with a team of planners, scientists and other environmental professionals in a flexible and collaborative office environment.

The Role
NPV is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Planner for our growing Hudson Valley practice with offices in Suffern, NY and Kingston, NY. The Senior Planner will work independently and directly with NPV clients and will oversee staff on municipal and environmental projects with guidance provided by partners and principals. The candidate should have a strong scientific and/or planning background, analytical skills, and the ability to communicate information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Manage small to medium environmental, planning and zoning assignments. Project management includes scheduling, communicating with clients, tracking budgets and schedules, and overseeing junior-level planners and support staff.
  • Coordinate with Planning Boards, Village Board and Town Boards on land use application reviews and assist private clients in processing land development applications.
  • Advise clients on the SEQR process and be able to prepare SEQR documents including EAFs and EISs.
  • Attend evening land use Board meetings as the primary professional advisor or representative to clients.
  • Prepare/manage Natural Resource Inventories, Comprehensive Plans, Zoning Amendments, Recreation Studies, Housing Reports and other environmental and planning studies as part of a project team.


Requirements/Skills

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the principles, practices and techniques of environmental and land use planning, and a working knowledge of New York State land use and environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience and a solid foundation in one or more of the following: land use and zoning; demographic, housing and fiscal impact analysis; natural resource and ecological analysis; visual impact analysis; sustainability and climate change.
  • Minimum requirements include either (1) a master’s degree in planning or related field and at least 5 years of professional planning experience or (2) a bachelor’s degree in planning and at least 8 years of professional planning experience.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint proficiency is required. Familiarity with ESRI GIS a plus.
  • AICP Certification is preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently and meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends.


Work Location

In person in Suffern, NY or Kingston, NY with flexibility for a hybrid arrangement.

Salary
