Environmental Analyst – Long Island Office

NPV is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Analyst to join our Division of Phase I/II Assessments & Remediation. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the field and be proficient in preparing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) reports under the guidance of a qualified environmental professional.

Responsibilities
• Conduct fieldwork under the supervision of an environmental professional who meets ASTM standards, including site inspections to identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) for the preparation of ESAs.
• Assist with soil and groundwater sampling and soil classification borings.
• Operate ground penetrating radar (GPR) and other testing equipment.
• Prepare sections of Phase I and II ESA reports, ensuring compliance with ASTM standards.
• Working on a drill rig for soil and groundwater sample collection and completing structural and soil classification borings.

Qualifications
• 5 or more years of experience performing Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments.
• Knowledge of ASTM Standards and the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, with annual 8-hour refresher course, as applicable.
• 10- or 30-hour construction safety certification.
• Proficiency with sample collection equipment, GPR, and GPS equipment.
• Experience with AutoCAD or GIS is considered an advantage.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to work with our Office Manager in our Melville office. The successful candidate will provide support with project coordination and handle various office management responsibilities.

Responsibilities
• Perform general office management duties, including scheduling, document printing/binding, preparation or digital files.
• Provide administrative support to partners and staff.
• Assist in project coordination and schedule management, and project tracking.
• Serve as the office liaison for staff and coordinate field and office schedules.
• Review and edit documents and reports for format and readability.

Qualifications
• Proven experience as an administrative assistant or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in Deltek software is preferred.
• Knowledge of development regulations and environmental permitting is helpful.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong writing and copy editorial skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Planner – Hudson Valley Office

NPV is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Planner to work in our Hudson Valley Office. The role is to support project managers and senior staff in development application reviews, grant preparation, zoning and comprehensive plan preparation, meeting attendance, and similar tasks. Looking for a mature, responsible individual who is both a team player but can work independently, is self-motivated, organized, attentive to detail, well-spoken, and has good writing skills. The individual will have experience in and be committed to the municipal and environmental planning field.


Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and conduct land use application reviews, environmental reviews in accordance with SEQRA, and preparing baseline studies and reports related to the planning field, including data gathered in the preparation of comprehensive plans.
  • Attend evening board meetings as staff planner for municipal clients within our region.


Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field and 3-5 years of progressive planning experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: land use, zoning, and demographic analysis; fiscal impact analysis, natural resource and ecological analysis, wetland delineations, traffic studies, visual impact studies, and similar environmental and planning responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of SEQR and New York State municipal laws.
  • AICP certification is preferable.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Adobe Acrobat is required. Knowledge of ArcGis is strongly encouraged.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.

NPV seeks interns looking to gain real-life experience and learn firsthand under a dedicated staff of professionals who specialize in Environmental Analysis, Planning, Ecological & Wetlands, Environmental Audits, Economics, Stormwater Management and Sustainable Landscape.  Intern candidates can expect to work on teams, which are staffed with professional planners and environmental professionals with a variety of backgrounds and experience levels and may participate in all phases of a project (field work, graphics preparation, report preparation, research, testing, field sampling, etc.).  Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.  GIS skills are a plus.  The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, have completed related coursework, and a strong desire to pursue an environmental or planning career on Long Island or in the Hudson Valley.  For inquiries on internships or other opportunities, please apply online
